Disaster Action Team Members

On Wednesday, April 16, 2008 members of the South Whidbey Disaster Action  Team responded to an early afternoon house fire. The home was destroyed. Team members provided funds for clothes, food and sundries for the family. The family was not in need a lodging.

 

The next scheduled meeting of the South Whidbey Disaster Action team will be Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 7pm at the Bayview Senior Center.

 

 The meeting is open to anyone that would like to come and meet the members of the team and learn more about how they can become involved in assisting their community in time of need.

 

Mary Rose the chapter’s Emergency Services Director will be in attendance at the meeting to meet members of the public and answer any questions.

 

The team is currently in need of South Whidbey Residents that would like to join the team and make a difference on South Whidbey. All training is free.

Mary encourages anyone that is interested in becoming a member of the South Whidbey Disaster Action team to take the Introduction to Disaster Class that can be found on the American Red Cross National website www.redcross.org then follow the link to disaster services. Introduction to Disaster Services is the first item under spot light items on the right side of the page. The on line class takes about an hour and is very well laid out and informative.

 

Once you have completed the on line class print out the last page for verification and then contact the chapter Volunteer Resource Department at volunteer@islandredcross.org or call at 1-888-216-5727 extension 22 to start the process to become a disaster volunteer.
