Mission

The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principals of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.

How funds were invested in

our community, 2006- 2007

Disaster Services

Trained volunteers are on duty 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to respond to local emergencies throughout Island County.

Armed Forces Emergency Services

Under its Congressional Charter, the American Red Cross provides emergency communication and social services to military personnel and their families.

Health & Safety Services

First Aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) are the most common of the health and safety courses.  Aquatics, babysitting, and HIV/AIDS prevention classes are also much in demand, as well as the recently implemented AED (Automated External Defibrillators) training.

Community Services

Chapter paid staff and volunteers participate regularly in countywide community events and work cooperatively with government agencies to help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.  In addition to the variety of events we participate in each year, hospital volunteers at the Naval Hospital Oak Harbor consistently contribute thousands of support hours annually to assist patients and staff.

Administration

Each year we touch the lives of thousands of Island County residents through our programs and services.  The Board of Directors and chapter management are committed to making sure that public contributions are well spent.

Red Cross Disaster Volunteers

Island County is fortunate to have approx 30 qualified national disaster volunteers right here in case of emergency.  Local volunteers are routinely called out on national and international assignments due to their experience and expertise in providing disaster relief.
