Hi:

This is an informational page of the responsibilities of being a member of the American Red Cross, Island County Chapter.   The vitality of Red Cross in our community depends on your commitment and imaginative leadership.

Listed below are the responsibilities of a board member of the American Red Cross, Island County Chapter.

  1. Serve on a minimum of one committee, i.e. Executive, Governance and Nominating, Audit, Finance or Financial Development Committee.  Additional information on each of these committees is available at the chapter office.

  1. Work with the Executive Director and her staff to learn how they are reaching the residents of Island County.  Learn about the current classes that are being offered, what products are currently available at the chapter office and how the Disaster Action Teams respond in times of emergencies.  By receiving first hand information on chapter services, you will be able to advocate more effectively for support.

  1. Contribute direct financial support to the chapter.  It is expected that 100% of the Board will contribute a personal gift annually.  Your support tells others that our Board of Directors is tangibly committed as investors.  Board members serve as a key resource to access support from businesses, government, and civic groups where they have influence.

  1. Attend Board of Directors meetings held a minimum of six times each year and attend all Board functions.  Your presence is valued and your active participation is needed to help move our chapter into Achieving Revolutionary Change.  Therefore, according to the bylaws, after three unexcused absences from board meetings, it is assumed that the elected member does not want to serve.

With the above information stated. The following are the standards set for the American Red Cross, Island County Chapter Board.

  1. You can anticipate a judicious and respectful use of your time.  The asset of time is one of the most critical resources busy people such as you have.  We commit to make the best use of your time in a manner that will return value to your personal contribution.  IF we fail in our attempt, the board chair does request to be advised.

  1. A board packet of agenda information will be emailed to you the Friday prior to the scheduled board meeting.

  1. A copy of the board orientation DVD will be provided to when you meet with Executive Director and Board Chair to facilitate your understanding and contributions to the organization.

The quality of Red Cross service to your community is dependent upon a committed and involved Board of Directors.  Please take time to review the above information.  In a week a representative from our board will contact you for your decision and start the process of becoming an American Red Cross, Island County Chapter Board member.
